On Sunday there will be elections of the president of Russian Federation and this is the main theme for discussing.... Administration of my university make students to go to elections, otherwise you'll be excluden. And they threaten to check it. For sure in our country there is democracy! Every news summary contains smth about presidential contenders and their motions, I'm tired of it.... Even in my favorite woman's magazine they write about politics. They compare Putin and Medvedev in the list of their qualities. It produces only irony and poignant sarcasm.... People make really fun of this situation in the country now, publishing funny phtos and expressions of our 'presidents'....
What does it mean to "be polite" in your culture?
I think in Russia we haven't any politeness. We've lost it after a number of years. Sometimes it could be. You could see a man, who offer a hand to women, person, who doesn't use swear words, tell 'thank you' and 'good bye', explain smth very politely without shout. I think these simple rules must be in every country, and in European countries people are very polite and kind. In Russia most people got angry of their life and couldn't keep their emotions...
On Thursaday at english class we're talking about news. And I was single in the watching everyday news. It's something like tradition to come back from work and watch tv news at 9 o'clock. It's important for me to keep an eye on situation at my country. When I lived in Vienna for some time and read newspapers, I saw every day the same: elephant run away from the zoo, minister of culture has visited outlying districts etc.... It was funny for me because in Moscow I always hear about crime, new laws, new buildings, some changes and this is really news and it's important information for every citizen... But most of people don't take an interest in country's life. May be because they know that can't influence, but it doesn't matter. I grew up at political family and I heard every day disputes of my relatives about politics and ofcourse I watched news and read newspapers with them.... I'm patriot and try to take interest in the life of my country even if I can't take active part in it..... Is it right? I think so.....
Now I miss Vienna so much. I love it in winter and that's why I want to be there.... I want to drink coffee from Starbucks and walk along the clear streets, drink 'cosmopolitan' at Manolo's in the evevning and dance samba with the waiter, be in the MUMOK and see these strange objects..... I miss Vienna, although it's not my favourite city.....
By the way, I've read one very interesting book a little today. It was the book of Renata Litvinova, outstanding russian actress and producer. There are her monologues, scripts and short stories. I've read only one 'monologue of nurse' and one short story about sad girl. It was full of philosophy about life and full of emotions, which change every second, so different emotions that it seems unreal. I've seen movie with Renata Litvinova 'Sky. Airplane. Girl' and in this movie she was playing girl whose feelings and emotions changed very quickly. It was very amusing to look after her, because I think it's very difficult to play this heroine...
